I met Justin on August 9th, 2017, through his old boss. Justin is retired from the Navy, and he is a GIANT standing 6’4” tall.
I did not think he would ever do yoga.
At our first session, Justin and I started with a prenatal class because of his injuries. We set a goal of getting him to a place where he could touch his toes. That may sound simple to many of you, but for those with traumatic injuries, it’s a lot harder than you think.
Justin not only can touch his toes, he comes to yoga every week without fail. Justin explains what motivates him to come to the mat:
I had heard incredible things about yoga, but as someone who suffers from chronic pain, I was always worried it would aggravate my old injuries from my time in the military. I had tried different procedures and therapies over the past 10 years to deal with my military-related injuries with little help.
It was not until I heard Ashley’s story of how yoga helped her recover from her car accident, and even walk again, that I decided to finally try it. She first made me realize the power of yoga. I opted for one-on-one instruction given my severe back, shoulder, neck and hip injuries, and I couldn’t be more impressed by her ability to adapt yoga to my needs while increasing my strength and flexibility.
I believe yoga to be one of the most complete forms of therapy I have received that allows me to safely move and strengthen areas of my body I never thought possible. I cannot thank Ashley enough for what they have done for me, and I greatly appreciate their professional and personal commitment to me as a client.
Justin is one of my favorite students to practice with, and it is my hope that yoga can mean as much to you as it does to Justin and me.
